British-born Nick Powell qualified as a design engineer in Engineering College at age 16. Instead, he opted to attend drama school in London and graduated in 1984. While working in theatre and television and also as an acrobat for a short stint in a Spanish circus, Nick trained to qualify as a stunt performer at the age of 22.
However, within a few short years, acting lost out to the more exciting and (at the time) lucrative stunt work. At the same time he became a member of the British Wu Shu team (winning silver in the European Championships).
After five years as a performer, Nick began coordinating television and smaller features based out of the UK, and when asked by Simon Crane (Titanic, Saving Private Ryan) to coordinate the fight sequences on Braveheart, he threw himself into the role and gave it his all.
Since then, working on 37 films (including Gladiator, The Last Samurai and The Bourne Identity) and well over 100 television productions as a Head of Department, and more recently as a Second Unit Director, Nick has been in constant demand.
Nick is currently pursuing a full-time career as a director.
